Rabbi Emily Cobert serves as Associate Rabbi and Education Director of Temple Israel in Ridgewood. A passionate educator and community builder, she is committed to creating a warm, inclusive environment where people of all ages can explore Jewish tradition, learning, and connection.
Before joining Temple Israel, Rabbi Cobert was the Rabbi of Temple Sinai in Middletown, NY. She received her rabbinic ordination, Master’s in Jewish Education, and Certificate in Pastoral Care and Counseling from the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York, and she holds an honors degree in Jewish History and Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.
Rabbi Cobert is especially passionate about helping families and students connect Jewish traditions to everyday life. At Temple Israel, Rabbi Cobert oversees a wide range of educational and family engagement initiatives, including Tot Shabbat and early childhood family programming, B’nai Mitzvah preparation, and the Northern New Jersey Jewish Academy (NNJJA) Hebrew School for grades pre-K to 7. She loves creating joyful, engaging Jewish experiences, and finding innovative ways to make Jewish learning relevant, accessible, and inspiring for today’s families.
Rabbi Cobert lives in Ridgewood with her husband Andy and their two children, Sarah and Ari. As both a rabbi and a parent, she understands the joys and challenges of raising a Jewish family and is passionate about helping others create meaningful Jewish moments at home and in the community. When she’s not at Temple Israel, you’ll likely find her spending time with her family, reading a good book, enjoying the outdoors, or discovering new ways to bring creativity, joy, and connection into Jewish life.
