On Sunday, January 14th, at 9:30 a.m., Laurence Fine, son of Temple Israel’s Rabbi David and Alla Fine, will talk about his recent study abroad experience at the University of Havana in Cuba. All of his classes were exclusively in Spanish and he was living with a local host family. Part of the reason why Laurence chose to study abroad in Havana is because it has a small, but active Jewish community.
In his talk, Laurence will discuss Cuba’s Jewish community, general life in Cuba, access to resources, and political attitudes toward the U.S., Cuban government, and Israel.
Laurence Fine, currently a junior at Wesleyan University, has recently completed a study abroad program at the University of Havana in Cuba.
