RCBI

A Diverse Offering of Reconstructionist Services and Discussions

Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Israel (RCBI) holds services every Friday night at 8:00 p.m. and two Saturdays a month at 10:00 a.m., with some exceptions. We also hold holiday services and yizkor observances. Please check our calendar frequently for updates and service information. As part of the TIJCC community, we also share services and programs with Temple Israel members.

Our congregation enjoys a mix of rabbi-led and lay-led services. Our members are invited to present a d’var torah if they wish and we enjoy interactive discussions about the week’s Torah portion as well as hearing the Torah read during our Shabbat morning services (we alternate between discussion and reading on the two Saturdays).

As a Reconstructionist community, we use the wonderful Kol Haneshama prayer book series that provides expanded portals to prayer and thought. The “kavanot” (intentions) below the line are thought-provoking, there are many moving and insightful readings in the back of the book, and the translations offer new ways to think about the concept of God.

We love to sing and we incorporate a lot of music into each service as well as some chanting. Clap your hands, stomp your feet, grab and egg shaker or bells to kick it up a notch!
