Lay-led service at 10am, followed by Kiddush lunch and presentation by Sarah Barasch-Hagans, a fifth-year student at the RRC.
Sarah Barasch-Hagans is the President of the Reconstructionist Student Association and works as the Jewish Advisor at Haverford College outside of Philadelphia. Last year, she was the Kleinbaum Rabbinic Intern at Bnai Keshet Synagogue in Montclair, NJ. Sarah is the Founder of the Fargesn Media Project, a documentary examining the intersections of Blackness and Judaism in the Ferguson Movement. She was also one of the creators of the #BlackLivesMatter Haggadah Supplement and for that was called a “visionary Jewish leader” by Jews for Racial and Economic Justice. Sarah worked for the past two years as the rabbinic intern for T’ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights on their campaign against mass incarceration and for worker justice, and before that was the rabbinic intern for the innovative Jewish website Ritualwell.org. Sarah is an active member of Kol Tzedek Synagogue in West Philadelphia, where she co-chairs the Racial Justice Committee and enjoys being a “Jew in the pew” with her neighbors.
