SHABBAT ACROSS AMERICA” DINNER AND SERVICE AT TEMPLE ISRAEL
On Friday night, March 5, at 6:30 p.m., Temple Israel and Jewish Community Center of Ridgewood, NJ, will host a “Shabbat Across America” dinner. Dinner will be at 7:00, and, at 8:30 p.m., the Kabbalat Shabbat (Welcome to Shabbat) service will begin. This dinner and service, at which non-members of Temple Israel are especially welcome, represents a united effort by the entire Jewish community to renew interest in the fourth of the Ten Commandments – observing a weekly day of rest (Shabbat in Hebrew).
Temple Israel is one of about 700 synagogues across the continent that will open their doors to practicing and non-practicing Jews alike, so they may join together to experience and rejoice in a traditional Shabbat service and festive meal. Presided over by Rabbi David J. Fine and led by Cantor Caitlin Bromberg, attendees will experience an informative Friday night service and a traditional Shabbat dinner with all the rituals explained.
Temple Israel members and non-members alike are invited to have a great kosher chicken dinner and socialize together. For non-members especially, this is an opportunity to experience the synagogue community’s warmth, friendliness, and camaraderie.
A special feature of this event will be a discussion in which many participants will share their family Shabbat memories with us, and everyone is invited to join in. What was traditional at your house for Shabbat? What made it special and memorable? What did you like the most? The least? It’s a SHABBAT-FEST!! The discussion period will follow the kosher meal, during which child care will be provided.
The Shabbat Across America dinner is affordably priced at $12 per adult, $8 for children 6-12 years old, and free of charge for children 5 years old and younger. The maximum price for a family is $40. Non-members of Temple Israel are welcome to participate at half price ($6 per adult, $4 for children 6-12, and maximum family price of $20).
