Googling for Ghosts w/ Sylvia Flescher
04/18/2010 10:30 AM
In this fragment of memoir, Temple member Sylvia Flescher, a psychoanalyst, describes her decades-long struggle with writer’s block and how her voice was over-shadowed by her analyst father, a writer and a Holocaust survivor. Themes of survivor guilt, incomplete mourning and the transmission of trauma to the second generation are illustrated. When her mother Anna was honored at Yad Vashem as a "Righteous Among the Nations", Sylvia found the experience to be unexpectedly healing, allowing her to begin to write.
