Nosh & Drash - Torah Breakfast-Seminary Shabbat
02/20/2010  9:00 AM

Temple Israel and JCC of Ridgewood will present its monthly “Nosh and Drash” on Saturday, February 20. Services will begin at 9:00 a.m. At 10:00 a.m. participants will move to the Social Hall for Breakfast and communal Torah Study.

Fourth year Jewish Theological Seminary Cantorial student Sidney Ezer will lead a study and discussion of Parshat Terumah (Ex. 25:1-27:19) titled, “The Tabernacle as a Microcosm of the Ideal Human and the Unity of God.” After summarizing the Malbim’s (Rabbi Meïr Leibush ben Jehiel Michel Weiser) depiction of the Tabernacle as a schematic representation of a human, we will explore the Zohar (the core mystical text of Judaism) and some midrashic sources for their symbolic and mystical portrayal of the Tabernacle as a reenactment of creation. Through analysis of meanings conveyed from the Tabernacle’s structure, contents, and some of the materials involved in its preparation, we will discuss how they contribute to the concept of an ideal microcosm of existence and the establishment of God’s unity.

After the discussion, services will resume at 11:00 a.m. All in the community are invited to participate.
