GreenFaith and Temple Israel Host Interfaith Environmental Training Seminar
|
|
On Sunday, January 13, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, GreenFaith and Temple Israel in Ridgewood will host an interfaith
environmental training seminar in two parts at Temple Israel. "We are excited to offer a seminar on such an important subject," said
Rabbi Gil Steinlauf, Rabbi at Temple Israel. "Our synagogue has worked with GreenFaith to implement a number of environmental initiatives.
We know that our members and that many in Ridgewood’s interfaith community will respond enthusiastically to the opportunity to strengthen
their own environmental leadership."
The first part of the seminar will include a presentation by the Rev. Fletcher Harper, GreenFaith’s Executive Director, along with presentations
by area clergy from the Jewish Christian, Hindu and Muslim traditions about their religion’s teachings on the environment. Those attending will
have the opportunity to discuss these religions’ environmental teachings - a unique and enriching opportunity.
The second part of the seminar will offer participants the opportunity to create an environmental action plan for their house of worship or home.
"GreenFaith has developed resources enabling religious leaders to plan to green various aspects of their community’s life," said Rev.
Harper. "We’ve found that many people are looking for ways to demonstrate their commitment to the environment, and that they are eager
to find ways to green the operation of their house of worship, address these issues in religious education and worship, and advocate for
environmental policies that protect all people, particularly the most vulnerable."
The seminar is free and open to the public; GreenFaith and Temple Israel ask that those wishing to participate register by e-mailing
info@greenfaith.org or by calling 732-565-7740, ext. 300. For more information about GreenFaith, see www.greenfaith.org. For more information

Among her many teaching positions for children and adults over the years, Fishman was employed in the late 1980's as the director of the newly formed Jewish Learning Center for adults in Santa Fe.
In 1999, Yehudis moved to Boulder, Co. to become one of the first Jewish women in the world to be employed as the Spiritual Director of an Orthodox congregation. In Boulder, she continues to teach and council community groups and people of all ages and backgrounds, especially about the wisdom of Jewish mysticism. During her long career, Yehudis has written and directed Jewish plays, poems, songs for children, and inspirational articles.
The Barry H. Glick Chesed Endowment Fund was endowed to bring to Temple Israel professional motivational speakers who will inspire attendees to perform acts of lovingkindness. The weekend events are offered free of charge and the public is invited. For additional information, please contact the synagogue office at 201-444-9320.
